One of my favorite dances that I’ve performed was to a song called “Confident” by Demi Lovato. I am sure most you all reading this have heard it and if you haven’t, you should definitely give it a listen after reading this.
As a dancer and performer, people expect us to be confident in what we do, which we are don't get me wrong. I mean performing in front of big audiences... that sounds pretty nerve-wracking right?? Believe it or not almost all performers get a tad nervous before that curtain goes up. But it’s a burning passion and love for what we do that drives us to put our best foot forward and be confident on stage. This metaphor relates to me but think of something that relates to you for a second. What is something that you are passionate about? Or something that makes you into the best version of yourself. Growing up, it is hard to find that confidence and that small ego boost that helps to keep your chin up through life’s obstacles. Now that I think about it, I’m not really sure how I built my personal confidence either. I think I just woke up one day and decided that I love myself, and I loved my life, and that I wasn’t going to let words or people stop me from being who I truly am. I guess it is a level of maturity you reach at a certain age to truly appreciate who you are as an individual and to not be easily influenced by your peers. But you’re never too young to start discovering yourself and accepting the unique qualities that make you YOU! Confidence does not mean arrogance or cockiness either. For me, confidence means self-love and happiness with who you are and what talents and traits you can build and share with others. Confidence is a positive attitude to hold about yourself and people truly love to see confidence in others!! That passion and love for performing that I possess, I want you all to discover that passion and love for life! The details will be filled in later from the people you meet and the memories you create and share. Fall in love with yourself and do things that make you happy no matter what people say or think. Your journey is YOURS and you are still young- there’s a lot to uncover in this world. So, go out there and discover your confident you!! ... And as the song asks, “What’s wrong with being confident??”
